Elegant Designs for the Decorative Artist
Branching Out
Pushing the Envelope. Over the past several months I have challenged myself to try something new and completely foreign to me……abstracts! Who knew that a desire to express my emotions in this manner ever existed! Though in some ways, I have been creating abstract backgrounds on the computer for my artwork for some time. I am having fun, giving myself permission to jump out of my comfort zone, using what I know about shapes, line, and color. I begin with an idea, a concept, but then the brush, or in some cases, the palette knife, seems to have its own mind and takes over. Enter emotion, a feeling, and we are “off”.
Trying something new is always a little unsettling. You don’t feel in control. You might fail. It is frustrating. Give yourself permission to experience all of these things, then try again. It helps you grow as an artist, as a person, and out of it something new will bloom. Isn’t that always true with a creative mind? It opens so many pathways.
Please take a moment and visit my fine art website, Jeanne Downing Fine Art, and see what I have been creating.
